In Back To The Future, Marty McFly had a pair of very nifty self-lacing trainers and they now actually exist.
Yes, they’re real and who better to model them than Michael J Fox (who played Marty) himself?
The actor showed off his brand new Nike Air Mag shoes on Jimmy Kimmel Live yesterday on Back To The Future Day, the day Marty and Doc Brown travelled to the future in 2015.
We have to admit, they look impressive and appeal to our inner lazy child.

Doc and Marty McFly have officially arrived in 2015!
It was the day many a Back To The Future fan had dreamed of – Doc and Marty actually turned up in the future complete with their DeLorean time machine.
Especially for Back To The Future day, the pair reunited to find out whether 2015 had turned out how the movie had predicted.
That was a big fat nope.
The time travellers wanted to know if anything they’d seen when they flew forward 30 years originally had actually come true.
Coronation Street paid tribute to Back To The Future in a skit on Text Santa last night.
The cast filmed a comedy sketch for the charity initiative on ITV, which saw Sir Richard Branson in a cameo appearance arrive to the street in his DeLorean and ask Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) and Kirk Sutherland (Andrew Whyment) to help fix his car.
Here’s the moment that Coldplay recreated a classic scene from Back To The Future – with a little help from Michael J Fox himself.
The band, who are currently on the US leg of their Head Full Of Dreams tour, thrilled crowds at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on Saturday night with their homage to the 1985 film, in response to a request from Chris Martin’s son Moses.
After he appeared onscreen asking his dad if he could ‘play a song from our favourite movie Back To The Future’, Chris duly obliged: ‘If your son asks you to do something then let’s try it!’
They went on to play the track Earth Angel – which you might recall from that moment in the film when George and Lorraine kiss for the first time at the school dance – but the band didn’t stop there.
1985 was notable for two reasons: Being the year in which I arrived into the world, and being the best year for film. Ever.
Not since the birth of cinema has one year packed in so many classic films. Large parts of my childhood were spent in the film world of 1985, watching the same movies over and over again.
Here are just some of the reasons why the 1985 rocked for film.
It’s been almost 30 years and we’re still waiting on our hover boards, re-sizable jackets and those awesome automatic lace-up shoes from Back to the Future Part II.
Well, one out of three isn’t bad – as Nike has finally announced it will be offering up GENUINE pairs of the futuristic trainers that feature in the 1989 movie.
Mars Attacks! is the star-studded movie that’s filled with the unexpected.
It’s the film that killed off nearly a dozen Hollywood A-listers, including Michael J Fox, Jack Black and Glenn Close, over the course of an hour and 46 minutes.
It’s the only movie where you’ll see Sarah Jessica Parker’s head on a chihuahua and a 1920s Broadway number used as a weapon of mass destruction.
And now, 20 years to the day that it first premiered in the US, here’s a look at 20 things you may not know about Tim Burton’s cult B-movie, Mars Attacks!
1. It’s based on a trading card series
Mars Attacks! actually began life as a series of trading cards in 1962.
The sci-fi collection was hugely popular with children and told the story of the invasion of Earth by a corrupt Martian government.
Michael J Fox was about the most fun part of the Oscars, until the La La Land and Moonlight debacle played out, and now the Back to the Future star has returned to the spotlight – to laugh about his Parkinson’s disease symptoms.
The actor was diagnosed with the neurological disease 26 years ago, and he admits that he ‘can’t stop laughing’ over the fact he can’t do everyday tasks normally.
Speaking to AARP, Fox described trying to make his wife Tracey… Read the full story
For gangster movies it’s The Godfather, for war movies it’s Apocalypse Now and for ill-advised video game adaptations it’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.
You’re happily sitting there, fully immersed in a film but then, out of nowhere, the cast leaps into an impromptu flash mob where everyone knows the steps.
Michael J. Fox has suffered from Parkinson’s disease for more than two decades, and has now faced another health scare where he has needed to undergo spinal surgery.
However, despite the trauma, the 56-year-old is on the road to recovery and is slowly getting over his operation.
A spokesperson for the star has announced that his spinal surgery was unrelated to his Parkinson’s and revealed that since the op he is ‘doing great’.
His rep Leslie Sloane told People magazine: ‘Michael J. Fox recently underwent spinal surgery unrelated to his Parkinson’s.
Fans have been made to look like a damn fool for getting this wrong.
While we all might wonder what happened when Marty asked if Doc was headed to the future in his time travelling train and he declared: ‘Nope, already been there!’l, continue to wonder we must.
Yup, die-hard Back To The Future fans have been mightily tricked by an… Read the full story
The actual original Nike Air Mags trainer worn by Michael J Fox in Back To The Future II in 1989 has sold for almost £100,000 (£70,143).
And that’s only the left shoe. No word on where the right is, but just one alone scored that amount of cash.
Worth it. They may be disintegrating and 29 years old but man, what a bargain. Not even being sarcastic, we’d sell our sister to get our hands on that baby.
The shoe features in the scene where Doc and Marty arrive in the future, 2015, and Doc hands Marty the trainers in a bid to get him wearing futuristic clothes to fit in to pass as his son to stop his real son going to prison.
The trainer was originally part of a Nike employee’s personal collection, and is so fragile it’s crumbling at the back and could only be purchased by someone living in Portland, Oregon as it was too delicate to travel.
The money raised goes towards Michael J Fox’s foundation for Parkinson’s research.
The shoe garnered 220 bids on eBay before the auction was won. Had we known this was going on, we would have raided the piggy bank.
Replicas of the shoe were made in 2011, with 1,500 pairs being created for fans of the show, each pair selling for thousands.
A further 89 pairs were created in 2016, thanks to Nike and The Michael J Fox Foundation.
We’re hoping it’s only a matter of time ’til those bad boys finally hit the shelves…
Every once in a while, a death hoax surfaces online leaving either the subject or those close to them to dispel it.
This time, it’s Michael J Fox’s turn. Again.
A vicious rumour was posted online claiming the Back To The Future star had died on 2 August following complications with his Parkinson’s Disease.
The fake article claimed he had checked himself into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and he had died later that morning from pneumonia.
It’s well known that Fox has suffered from Parkinson’s for years. He was first diagnosed 26 years ago in 1992, when he was aged 31.
A few folks have written me that I have missed a death today of Michael J. Fox. Well, this is what I really call FAKE NEWS. This is a fake site folks. If it was real many more sites would be reporting this. Even though it says "Yahoo" it is not "Yahoo". pic.twitter.com/dAwMxgvc17
The website that posted the nasty slur had mocked itself up to look like the news website Yahoo News.
The headline read: ‘Beloved actor and Back to the Future star Michael J. Fox has died at the age of 57.’
This is understood to be a fake news story and no statement has been provided by Michael or his family.
Online fact-checking site Snopes says the website, http://www.yahoonews-us.com, is a ‘junk news website that imitates the appearance and domain of the real Yahoo! News site—yahoo.com/news.’
Michael J Fox was the subject of a death hoax back in 2013 when a Facebook post reported that he had died.
Our little hearts are filled with joy at the reunion of our favourite Back To The Future characters.
Back To The Future II has basically come to life as four of the main characters reunited 33 years after the original movie was released.
Marty McFly, his nemesis Biff Tannen, Doc Brown, and his mum Lorraine Baines/McFly AKA Michael J Fox, Thomas Wilson, Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson reunited for one heck of an Instagram snap.
Christopher Lloyd couldn’t help but get a shot of himself reuniting at Fan Expo Boston with his time-travelling co-stars, simply captioning it: ‘This was special.’
Understatement of the century right there.
They previously reunited in 2015 for the original movie’s 30th anniversary, and it seems like we’ve waited an age for an updated pic.
The quartet chatted all things Back To The Future at the expo, even addressing the bonkers idea that there should be a fourth sequel to the franchise.
Thomas Wilson told the crowd: ‘Basically, I think America is saying, ‘Come on they’ve wrecked every other franchise with bad sequels, why not this one?’ C’mon, we would watch it until it sucks.”
Michael J Fox confessed though that the whole idea was out of their hands, as co-creator Bob Gale is the ‘gatekeeper of the franchise’, implying another sequel is not to be.
The expo was filled with Marty McFly lookalikes, as fans dressed in the ‘life preserver’ jacket that became synonymous with the character – prompting MJF to comment he hated his character’s garb.
‘I’m impressed with all these people in these vests,’ Lea Thompson, who played Marty McFly’s mother, said. ‘It’s 100 degrees and everyone’s wearing these vests.’
Michael commented his original outfit had been ‘so hot’ and was adorned with ‘silly Velcro.’
‘It looked great but it was terrible to wear,’ he said, according to MassLive.com.
Speaking of filming the cult movie back in the 80s, when Michael J Fox was filming Family Ties during the day and BTTF by night, he commented: ‘My life was just a blur.
‘When the movie came out, it shocked me ’cause I had no idea what it was going to be, because I had no chance to live with it.
‘It just happened overnight.’
Lea Thompson then gave her two pennies’ worth on what she thought the true meaning behind the trilogy was – which earned her huge cheers from the audience.
She said: ‘This movie was so powerful to show to your children because it’s the idea that if you do the right thing, if you have the courage, if you stand up for yourself at the right moment of your life, you can change not only your future but your children’s future.’

Michael J. Fox popped his first tattoo cherry on Thursday and opted for an unusual aquatic illustration.
The 57-year-old plumped for a picture of a sea turtle on his right forearm at famous NYC inking studio, Bang Bang.
Fox proudly uploaded a picture of his new sea turtle design on Instagram, which tattoo artist Mr. K later revealed to represents ‘his life and himself’.
The Marty McFly actor remained cryptic with his explanation, captioning the photo: ‘First tattoo, sea turtle, long story.’
The design features a detailed drawing of a reptile swimming freely through ripples of water.
And the artists responsible for the Back To The Future star’s very first inking couldn’t help but ‘fan out’ after coming face-to-face with the Hollywood actor in their studio.
Mr K wrote: ‘For @realmikejfox thank you for the trust as well as letting us fan out a bit after! Thank you for sharing the story of your tattoo with me. Keep following that turtle.’
Later, Mr K shared a little more insight into the design when he posted it to his own Instagram page, writing: ‘Represents his life and himself. Can’t decide how I feel today @realmikejfoxit was an honor.’
